The Subotica Half Marathon delighted the participants, lived up to expectations and got a new record

The fourth “Subotica Half Marathon” fully lived up to the expectations of both the organisers and the participants of this sporting event, whose aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle and the cultural and historical heritage of Subotica.

Around 1,000 participants from 17 countries ran through the streets of Subotica under the slogan “Run through History”, enjoying along the way the view of the magnificent City Hall, the Synagogue, the colours of the Raichle Palace, the monument to Ivan Sarić, the City Library, the National Theatre and many other important buildings and monuments of our city. Before the main races of 5, 10 and 21 km, a block of children’s races, the “Active kids future run”, was held with around 500 smiling children, including a race for babies in pushchairs.

The main races started at 10 o’clock, and in the most challenging one, over 21 km, victory went to Velimir Bojović from Belgrade, who swept like a whirlwind through the streets of Subotica and deservedly celebrated in a time of 1h 14min 21sec, breaking the course record in the process. Bojović did not hide his delight with his race and with the organisation, which he described as fantastic, on a European level, adding that the crowd in Subotica lines the course and cheers every competitor. In the women’s category, Slađana Stamenković of AK Vlasenica was first across the finish line in 1:25:22. The fourth Subotica Half Marathon was ceremonially opened by the Mayor of Subotica Stevan Bakić, who said on that occasion that the race slogan “Run through History” is one of the most beautiful and most accurate in the world, because the participants have the chance to run past the most important buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries to the present day. The President of the City Assembly, Dr Bálint Pásztor, also proudly pointed out in his address that the Subotica Half Marathon is the most numerous race in Serbia after the Belgrade Marathon, thanking the organisers from the sports association “Horizont” for the unrepeatable experience the runners had, and then he himself successfully ran the 21 km in 1:52:56. The sporting event “Subotica Half Marathon” is officially the biggest sporting event in Subotica and is held as part of the City Day celebration, which this year runs until 3 September.
