Velimir Bojović: “For me running is a return to childhood and youth, running is love…”
Next up is the 4th Subotica Half Marathon. The men’s winner was Velimir Bojović from Belgrade, a two-time medal winner at this sporting event. Besides being the best in 2021, our interviewee also confirmed his winning position in his category last year.
As he says, he has been actively running since his junior days. “What was most decisive for me taking up this sport was that my father and older brother were already in athletics. My personal benefit from running can be described in just one sentence: every run is a new joy for me,” our interviewee explains.
Velimir believes that sacrificing your free time and leaving your comfort zone to get a training session done is not really a sacrifice if it brings satisfaction, and adds that it cannot be described in words, it has to be felt. “As a two-time winner in Subotica, I can express my great delight with the setting, the course and the wonderful people who organise this half marathon so successfully. More and more cities in Serbia are organising half marathons, all with the aim of promoting their city, and that is why it is important that Subotica continues to have its half marathon, because your city has something to show all its guests, the athletes.”
Asked what he would say to everyone who will take part in the half marathon this year, Velimir says: “The message for those who have been, but also those who haven’t, is to come to Subotica to experience all the beauty of this city and a very fast course. Preparation for the race should be done in these hot days exclusively in the early morning hours, at least three times a week, about ten kilometres at half-marathon rhythm. Go for it, and be smart, you can do it!”
