The Subotica Half Marathon through the lens – emotions and moments that stay with us

Running is far more than a race and a stopwatch. It is an encounter with yourself, a battle with your own limits, but also companionship, laughter, support and a sense of togetherness that is felt especially strongly when hundreds and thousands of sports lovers gather in one place.

Year after year, it is exactly this kind of atmosphere that the Subotica Half Marathon brings — an event that long ago outgrew the framework of a sporting competition and became one of the events that define summer in Subotica. On the city’s streets, professional athletes, recreational runners, experienced competitors and those who have decided to take their very first steps in the world of running all run side by side.

Behind every kilometre covered lies a special story. For some the goal was the best possible result, for others to push their own limits, and for some simply to enjoy the company and the energy that an event like this brings. There was fatigue, sweat and effort, but even more smiles, hugs, cheering and moments of pride.

When we talk about the Subotica Half Marathon – the “race through history”, results and placings are only one part of the story. Just as important are the moments captured before the start, when excitement and anticipation take over, those during the race when runners search for their last ounce of strength, and the scenes at the finish line — raised arms, embraces and emotions after the kilometres have been successfully conquered.

A special charm is added by the people standing along the course. The support of the crowd, of friends, family and passers-by lifts the atmosphere even further and gives the runners strength precisely when they need it most. In this way, during the half marathon, Subotica turns into a great sporting stage on which everyone has their own role.

The ninth Subotica Half Marathon therefore left behind far more than the results entered into the official lists. What remains are memories of a wonderful sporting get-together, of a city filled with positive energy, and of people who that day shared the same goal – to enjoy running and to be part of an event that grows year after year.

What cannot be recorded in results has been preserved in photographs. The lenses of Subotica’s photographers captured numerous special moments, from the preparations and the start, through the most exciting parts of the race, to the crossing of the finish line and the celebrations after the kilometres were run. The photographs captured all those spontaneous happenings that often best describe the spirit of an event.

Perhaps among them you will find a photograph of yourself, your friend, a family member or someone you cheered on that day. Perhaps you will recognise yourself in the moment you crossed the finish line, or smile when you see a memory of the get-together that marked this year’s half marathon. So browse through the galleries, find your own moments and keep the memory of the 9th Subotica Half Marathon.
