Press conference
With a press conference at the City Hall, the campaign for the 1st Subotica Half Marathon was officially opened; the race will be held on 2 September 2017 as part of the “City Day” event.
That the city administration of Subotica has recognised the good intentions of the sports association “Horizont” as organiser of this event was confirmed by Mayor Bogdan Laban, explaining to the journalists present how significant this 21.1 km race is both for sport and for tourism in Subotica.
-By organising this half marathon we want to put Subotica on the map of the recreational running world, where Sombor, Zrenjanin and Novi Sad, but also Timișoara, Szeged and Baja, already are. In the future we want to be one of the leaders in organising races in the region.
Deputy Mayor Tímea Horváth also graced this press conference with her presence and a few words; she is also a member of the committee for organising the City Day celebration and therefore the person in contact with the association Horizont regarding the organisation of the 1st Subotica Half Marathon itself, and she pointed out that one of the goals of the race is also the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
-This Subotica half marathon will also give our fellow citizens who do not run recreationally the chance to get to know the landmarks and cultural heritage of the City through a walk.
Supporting the idea and putting it into practice, one of the future members of the association Horizont and currently a Member of the Serbian Parliament, Bálint Pásztor, pointed out to the journalists present that runners from the neighbouring countries are expected and that he is glad the people of Subotica will also be able to take part, both as runners and as supporters.
-Almost every place in our surroundings has its own race; only Subotica has not had one in the past decades. The TRON Birthday races are organised at Palić, which celebrated their tenth edition this year. In the summer months, ultramarathon races are held, organised by the club Paligo Palus and the Ultramarathon Association of Serbia, as well as 12-hour, 6-hour and 100-kilometre races, but there were no races in Subotica. That is why I especially thank Mayor Bogdan Laban that the local government will be a partner and help with the organisation of the first Subotica half marathon.
Živica Savin also addressed the journalists, primarily as moderator of the press conference and then as vice-president of the association “Horizont”, explaining how the campaign will be run and mentioning the segments that will include charitable actions.
Kristifor Bogdanić, as president of the association Horizont, described the race course at the very end, emphasising the multiculturalism and cultural heritage of Subotica.
– The greatest charm of this race is that the participants will get to know the landmarks and beauties of our City. They will run past the City Hall, the Synagogue, the National Theatre, the Raichle Palace, Dudova šuma…
No wonder the whole campaign, and the race itself, is accompanied by the slogan “Run through History”.
Get ready for one of the most beautiful races in the region!
