“SUPM Community Day” is coming soon
Dear runners,
The Subotica Half Marathon team has a surprise for you this year! We know you are all eagerly awaiting 30 August, when the 9th Subotica Half Marathon takes place, but we have decided to get together with you earlier. On Sunday 21 June, in Prozivka Park, in one of Subotica’s largest neighbourhoods, “SUPM Community Day” will be held, aiming to bring together recreation, charity work and community building. The event is organised by the SU Horizont association, which also organises the Subotica Half Marathon.

The “SUPM Community Day” programme includes 5 km and 9 km races and a 2-on-2 basketball tournament, while the youngest participants have a play area, a kids’ race and sports courses designed by the SU-TIM sports school. Žika Savin of the SU Horizont association says the event goes beyond sport and has a wider social significance: through the race, the plan is to contribute actively to the development of school-age children, to promote the now well-known Subotica Half Marathon, and to build a community that will support sports infrastructure in the city. “The charitable character of the event lies in the fact that part of the entry fees will go towards the development of school-age children, with a clearly defined purpose. The entry fee for the races is 1,900 dinars, symbolically following the number nine in line with this year’s edition of the Subotica Half Marathon; participants receive a race pack with socks bearing the event logo, water and healthy meals, and all finishers will take home certificates of appreciation and eco medals with a special message. Our idea is for every medal to carry a quote about togetherness on its back, as a symbol of what we want to build.” Savin adds that a special incentive for participants is the opportunity to register for the Subotica Half Marathon at a discounted price.

Siniša Repija, president of the Subotica School Sports Federation, points out that initiatives like this are especially important today, when positive values are often neglected. “Through the sports courses, the focus will be on children aged six to nine, whom we want to teach basic motor and life skills through play and competition. The most important thing is that they have fun, but also that they understand how important sport is for their development,” says Repija.
Those interested can register for “SUPM Community Day” until 12 June on the Subotica Half Marathon website, and teams for the basketball tournament register via a Google form –> here. Everyone who wants to enter the basketball tournament should send the players’ names and surnames, their years of birth and the team name, after which they will receive a reply email with payment instructions. The basketball tournament will be played under adapted rules, with nine-minute games; juniors and seniors, i.e. everyone born in 2010 or earlier, are eligible, and teams may have up to four members. Details of registration for the kids’ races will be published soon.
