The 1st Subotica Half Marathon is over

The 1st Subotica Half Marathon is over

The 1st Subotica Half Marathon, called “Run through History”, has been successfully completed.

The premiere of the half marathon race was accompanied by great weather conditions and a great mood in our city. The half marathon, organised as part of the City Day celebration, was opened by Tímea Horváth, Deputy Mayor.

This is a great day for Subotica. All of you who are in our city today and taking part in the half marathon and the 5 km race have entered the history of Subotica; welcome!

535 participants ran the 5 km race and the 21 km half marathon race; before the start of the main races the little ones ran their races of 100 and 300 metres called “All children are winners”, and 280 of them adorned the heart of our Subotica with their smiles.

The half marathon was accompanied by excellent organisation, which hosted runners from all over Serbia and the region. Our guests were runners from Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, France, Italy and Norway.

What we as organisers are proud of is also that our fellow citizens ran their half marathon, and many of them their first, in our city, more than a hundred of them. Subotica has once again shown that it is a city of sport, both professional and recreational.

Running through history, the participants of the 1st Subotica Half Marathon had the chance to see the rich historical, architectural, cultural and sporting heritage of Subotica. They did all this running along a course that is mostly in the shade, with 14 refreshment stations, 3 DJ decks and kind volunteers who took care of their needs. All together we sent a beautiful picture of Subotica, its hospitality and kindness, out into the world.

The promoter of the 1st Subotica Half Marathon was the basketball player Nataša Kovačević, who waited for all the runners at the finish and presented them with their medals.

First across the finish line in the 5-kilometre race was 21-year-old Adrian Malagurski from Subotica with a time of 00:17:50.43; some thirty seconds later Igor Đurašević from Lovćenac finished the race (00:18:16.94), while third was Dejan Španović from Belgrade (00:18:20:68).

As for the half marathon, that is, the 21-kilometre distance, Ivan Miškeljin (40), former Serbian marathon champion from Belgrade, was convincing with a result of 01:18:43.49. Second was Jožef Halas from Kanjiža (01:22:08:00), while third was Zoran Radičanin from Belgrade.

I am delighted by how much greenery there is in this beautiful city. It was hot, but that is exactly what helped me a lot to stay fresh. I would like to thank all the people of Subotica for a wonderful half marathon and my friend Bálint Pásztor who invited me. The course is phenomenal; I can say that this half marathon has a future, and I believe that in a few years it will be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with many European capitals, in the company of the best road races

were the words of the winner of the 1st Subotica Half Marathon on crossing the finish line.

Among the women in the 5-kilometre race the winner was Katarina Pohlod Keti, 00:20:55.95, from Belgrade; second was Vesna Vicko Bogešić from Novi Sad, and third place went to Adel Tandi from Kanjiža.

The first woman in the half marathon to pass through the gate on the City Square was Nóra Szabó from Budapest (01:25:01.99), while Nora Trklja, born in Subotica, was second (01:25:54.50); third in the half marathon was Tijana Kabić from Sombor.

The whole race passed in the best order, there were no health problems among the runners, and everyone, with more or less success, completed the running premiere in Subotica. In the evening, the get-together continued at Trg slobode as part of the City Day celebration, and everyone who stayed had the chance to enjoy themselves, round off a wonderful sporting day and celebrate their success in the best possible way.
